The cobbled streets were, for some reason, particularly harsh on everyone this year with more punctures that I remember from past events.

As I stood there in the rain I was wondering how the usual crazy rush to the start of a race like this would be affected by the conservative dress, politness and good manners that were in abundance.

The cafes had more people sitting around evening up their tans, there were people riding other trails than just the race runs, there were cross-country bikes on the lift again. It almost started to feel like a holiday!
